Playground improvement plans

Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent consultation on playground improvements at John Pears Recreation Ground, Ashurst Wood, Bachelor's Field Recreation Ground, Bolney and Twineham Recreation Ground. We have read all the responses and developed a design brief for each playground.

John Pears Recreation Ground

John Pears Recreation Ground

We are looking into options but we aim to:

  • Provide swings for older children including a swing for multiple children to use together
  • Improve surfacing so play area can be used and enjoyed all year round
  • Improve the visual connection with wider open space
  • Provide a modern climbing unit which offers the opportunity for role play, bridges, big slide; but with a climbing challenge to cater for older children
  • Seating/picnic tables
  • Tree planting for summer shade

Batchelor’s Field Recreation Ground

Batchelors Field

We are looking into options, but we aim to complete two projects:

Scooter / bike area

  • To provide somewhere for children to ride their bikes, scooters and skateboards away from traffic
  • To free up the Multi Use Games Area to be used for ball sports rather than wheeled sports
  • Surface to be suitable for use all year round

Playground

  • Improve the surfacing so trip hazards are removed and all people can move freely around the space
  • Provide a modern climbing unit which offers the opportunity for role play, monkey bars, a big slide and a climbing challenge to cater for older children
  • Separate equipment for toddlers
  • Tree planting for summer shade

Twineham Recreation Ground

Twineham Recreation Ground

We are looking into options, but we aim to provide:

  • Assault course style climbing unit with monkey bars and a slide to offer a challenge to older children
  • Separate role play equipment for toddlers
  • Seating/picnic tables
  • Tree planting for summer shade
